Post Matric Scholarship for Scheduled Caste Students

What is it?

This is the government's largest scholarship for Scheduled Caste students at the post-matric stage, that is from Class XI onwards through to professional and postgraduate courses. Its stated purpose is to lift the share of SC students who go on to higher education, with the poorest households treated as the priority group.

The support has two parts: reimbursement of the compulsory non-refundable fees charged by the institution, including tuition, and an academic allowance towards other study costs. Students with disabilities receive an additional allowance on top.

The scheme is centrally sponsored rather than centrally run. The Centre and the states share the cost, and it is your state or union territory government that selects beneficiaries, based on where you are domiciled. Scholarships are only for courses studied inside India.

• Your parents' or guardian's income must not exceed Rs 2,50,000 a year.
• You must be studying at post-matric level, that is Class XI or above.
• Studies must be in India, and you are selected by the state or union territory where you are domiciled.
• Students with disabilities receive an extra 10 per cent allowance.
