हे काय आहे?
ZED stands for Zero Defect Zero Effect - making products with no defects and with no bad effect on the environment. The MSME Sustainable (ZED) Certification Scheme helps small manufacturers get formally certified against those standards, so that larger buyers, government departments and export customers have a recognised assurance of quality.
Certification normally costs money that a small unit cannot spare, so the government pays most of it. The published subsidy on the cost of ZED certification is 80% for Micro Enterprises, 60% for Small Enterprises and 50% for Medium Enterprises.
On top of that base subsidy, an extra 10% is provided where the enterprise is "owned by Women/SC/ST Entrepreneurs OR MSMEs in NER/Himalayan/LWE/Island territories/aspirational districts", and a further 5% where the enterprise is "part of the SFURTI OR Micro & Small Enterprises - Cluster Development Programme".
There is also a joining reward. The scheme states that "Rs. 10,000/- will be offered to each MSME once they take the ZED Pledge". This reward is valid only for one year after taking the Pledge, and it is set off against the cost of certification before the percentage subsidy is worked out.
Participation requires a Udyam Registration - the government's official registration number for an MSME. Where a business runs more than one unit under a single registration, each unit has to apply separately for the benefits. Certification levels can be upgraded at any time during the validity period. A common misunderstanding: this is not a cash grant for running a business. It is money that reduces what the enterprise pays for the certification process itself.
संभाव्य लाभ
The government subsidises the cost of ZED certification at 80% for Micro Enterprises, 60% for Small Enterprises and 50% for Medium Enterprises. An additional 10% applies to MSMEs owned by women, SC or ST entrepreneurs, or located in the North Eastern Region, Himalayan states, Left Wing Extremism affected districts, island territories or aspirational districts. A further 5% applies to MSMEs that are part of SFURTI or the Micro and Small Enterprises Cluster Development Programme. A one-time joining reward of Rs 10,000 is offered to each MSME on taking the ZED Pledge, valid for one year and adjusted against certification cost.

अर्ज कसा करावा
Udyam registration is obtained first on the Udyam portal if the enterprise is not already registered. The enterprise then registers on the ZED portal (zed.msme.gov.in) and takes the ZED Pledge, which triggers the Rs 10,000 joining reward. It then applies for the certification level sought, and the subsidy is applied to the certification cost according to enterprise size and category.
